Abstract
In this paper, based on the contents of KuodiZhi(括地志) quoted in Hanyuan(翰苑), the characteristics of Bang(方), the highest local governing body in the Baekje local control system after the 6th century, and the time of its establishment were examined. It can be seen that the records comparing Bang (方) to the governor (都督) and the records of Bangryeong (方領) mainly focused on military roles, it could be seen that it had a strong character as an A Military district(軍管區). The installation of Bang(方) was made out of the necessity of Bang(方). For the defense of the capital, starting with Northern-Bang(北方), Western-Bang(西方) and Eastern-Ban(東 方) would have been established. And it is estimated that the relationship between Baekje and Silla·Gaya was influenced by Southern-Bang(南方), which was subsequently installed. Central-Bang(中方) was installed for the purpose of controlling the Jeollanam-do region including the Yeongsan River basin.
