Abstract

Tiles craftsman is a craftsman who makes tiles, and tiles are a building member used on the roof of a building. Tile tiles are usually limitedly used only in buildings of authority and are closely related to power. This is the reason why the status of roof tiles cannot be taken lightly.
Until now, studies on tiles intersect between an art history perspective that emphasizes patterns and an archaeological perspective that focuses on production techniques. However, what is more important than patterns or production technology is the restoration of the organization. The lack of literature data is an obstacle to restoring the ancient society. In such an atmosphere, it is noteworthy that characters are identified on the roof tiles. Character tiles were written by people at the time, unlike historical documents compiled later. The contents of the characters are mainly the production date and time, the owner, the manufacturer, the supplier, and the producer.
The types of craftsmen identified in letter tiles are broadly classified into A government office craftsman, The temple craftsman, and individual craftsman. If A government office craftsman produced tiles by the state government, The temple craftsman worked under the influence of Buddhism. On the other hand, individual craftsman emerged as the public production system such as 六窯and 瓦所collapsed.
The collapse of the nation's public production system made roof tiles an object of sale. For example, in the 12th century, “贖銅瓦徵” was implemented to relieve sinners of their sins. On the other hand, government office craftsman and the temple craftsman were included in the national production system until the founding of the Joseon Dynasty and the appearance of a kiln represented by 別瓦窯.
