The purpose of this article is to seek for historical implications of three kings who were classified in to the name of kingship for Daewang (Great King) from Goguryeo, namely, Great King Taejo, Great King Cha and Great King Shin and search for the cause and background for them to leave as the great king within the bibliographic record. As a result, it is affirmable that the establishment of great king-type name of king is attributable to the need of securing the justification on the political upheaval of Yeongae Somun and inauguration of Bojang-wang (Bojang-kking). The contents confirmed from the main context are summarized as follows.
First of all, the primitive type of Goguryeo name of king was Hwi-type name of king, and the 1th~5th great king had their name of king granted and succeeded following such a method. On the other hand, the majority of the name of king is the jangji (tomb site) name of king that it started out from the first jangji name of king of the 9th Gogukcheon-wang to the time prior to Gwanggato-wang. The so-called 3great kings have unique position to have different type of name of king as it is positioned between the Hwi-type name of king and jangji name of king as the name of king of the 6th ~ 8th great king.
However, while the succession of the jangji that is the basis to determine the name of king is incomplete, and looking in light of the point that the succession of the Hwi-type is far more in details, the 3 great kings are shown to have a high possibility as the Hwi-type name of king from the beginning. In particular, from the stand point that they were the ones that left a conspicuous foot print externally and internally, they were presumably the people perceived as the ones who had lasting impression to the Goguryeo people of the time, and it is considered to have more feasibility in the point that the Hwi-type name of king would be the linking point of the method to grant the name of king of the earlier times. Namely, the intrinsic name of king for those 3 great kings are understand as Gung-wang, Suseong-wang and Baekgo-wang.
Next, as for the time of shifting them to the 3 great kings, unlike the attention paid to the original poetry to compile 『Sinjip』, it has taken a look at the lighting on 3 great kings in the purpose to find the justification of the regime after the political upheaval of Yeongae Somun. The relationship and foot print of those 3 great kings could be attributable to the point that it was extremely similar to Daeyang-want who was the father of Bojang-wang, along with the earlier kings in Youngyang-wang, Youngryu-wang (Muyang-wang). Yeongae Somun and Bojang-wang for names of king of 3 yang-wangs for the previous great kings and their brethren to take those 3 great kings as the precedent, and as the foot step of those 3 great kings was concluded by the new great king and inauguration of national funeral of myeonglimdapbu, the foot step of 3 yang-wangs are known to build up the justification for the inauguration of Bojang-wang and Yeongae Somun taking the position of Makriji (prime minister in the contemporary time).
