Abstract

This paper examines the status and characteristics of Koguryo artifacts excavated in the Jungwon area. Although that artifacts are limited in terms of quantity and type, Koguryo clearly has territorialized the Jungwon area in that they were found in the same type as artifacts excavated from China's Jian and North Korea's Pyongyang.
In particular, this paper analyzed the most excavated pottery among Koguryo artifacts and assumed the timing of Koguryo's entry into Chungju and Cheongwon areas. As a result, it could be estimated that Chungju entered after the mid- to late 5th century and Cheongwon after 475. And it was judged that Koguryo had stably ruled the Jungwon area for a while based on the ornaments including gilt-bronze halo and golden earrings. In addition, the possibility that Namseonggol Fortress, was used as a local administrative center was investigated. Of course, this is something that needs to be discussed along with the size of the fortress and the contents of the remains. In addition, it mentioned the possibility that the former Baekje craftsman participated in the production of Koguryo pottery.
The Jungwon area was a fierce battleground between the three kingdoms from early on, and as the subject changed to Baekje, Koguryo, and Silla, the various cultures that remained at the base naturally merged. After the unification of the three kingdoms, the Silla culture spread throughout South Korea, but the convergence of the three kingdoms culture including Koguryo was confirmed in all directions in pottery, roof tiles, fortresses, tombs, and temples.
