Abstract

『Isusinpyeon』 is a scientific book compiled in an encyclopedia format by LJae Hwang Yun-seok, a Silhak scholar in the late Joseon Dynasty. Hwang Yun-seok compiled 『Isusinpyeon』 from September 1744(20th year of King Yeongjo's reign) when he was 16 years old until 1748, four years later. However, it is unclear exactly when 『Isusinpyeon』 was completed. The manuscript 『Isusinpyeon』, written by Hwang Yun-seok, consists of four books and is currently in the possession of the National Museum of Korea.
In the process of composing the contents of 『Isusinpyeon』, Hwang Yun-seok set up his own section, drastically abbreviating the contents of 『Seongri Daejeon』, extracting and inserting relevant content from various documents, and then providing brief annotations and his own opinions. added. In particular, Hwang Yun-seok referred to many Chinese and Korean writings in the process of editing 『Isusinpyeon』.
The historical value of 『Isusinpyeon』 can be said to be very useful material for studying Hwang Yun-seok's perception of Neo-Confucianism and the history and literature of the Korean language during the Joseon Dynasty. In addition, 『Isusinpyeon』 has valuable historical value in researching the history of mathematics and astronomy, geography, and mechanics in Joseon.
